Matthew 13:

Def: understand

G4920 συνίημι suniemi (soon-ee’-ay-mee) v.

KJV: consider, understand, be wise

  1. The heart that does not understand is hardened to certain aspects of truth so that it is not able to put all the pieces together so that they result in conversion and ongoing transformation. 18-19
  2. The heart that receives the word with joy but does not continue is because of no root in ones soul that is deep and immovable. This means they have sought identity in other things without having established integrity in themselves that cannot be moved by what is delusional and false. 20-22
  3. Thorns that choke the divine seed in us that is growing are those that all temporal securities and pleasures to take priority over seeking God and his will and plan for their lives. Verse 22
  4. The seed that does grow to fruitfulness are those that actually hear the word with their heart and understand so there’s connection together with the results of function and fulfillment. Verse 23
